The goals of the Enterprise Community were developed from a survey that was administered to roughly 1/3 of the EC residents. In the survey, residents identified a number of concerns and hopes regarding their community. These concerns and hopes were combined into 6 broad focus areas. All the benchmarks and goals listed in the Enterprise Community plan fall under one of these areas. These areas are listed below, with the goals.

Basic Needs:

Provide quality housing for EC residents
Provide excellent emergency services
Provide accessible health care that meets the needs of the residents.
Provide social service needs of residents in a supportive and coordinated network of care.
Provide safe, affordable homes and offer homebuyer education to help families get into homes.
Provide Elderly housing.
Strengthen Emergency Services.

Conservation

Environmental Education
Protect existing natural resources
Improve farming livelihood with conservation practices
Improve water quality for fish, wildlife and humans.

Education and Arts:

Create an education and arts infrastructure that supports all citizens.
Increase skills acquired through vocational training programs.
Provide counseling for students with behavior and/or substance abuse problems.
Promote continuing education classes, develop community education programs and develop marketable skills in the workforce.
Connect classroom learning to community service.
Promote afterschool and summer enrichment programs.

Infrastructure:

Provide adequate water and waste services to residents and businesses
Provide adequate transportation system in the EC.
Develop telecommunications system for education, business, and personal development of residents
Provide adequate solid waste management

Sustainable Economic Development:

Raise the per capita income in the region in a way that sustains the environment and the community.
Create Jobs: Promote region as business location.
Create a trained workforce
Diversify agriculture from dependence on tobacco
Support Small Businesses
Incrase capital investment available to business for creation and expansion.
Provide direct technical assistance to small business.

Tourism:

Develop low-impact and nature-based tourism as a way to expand the economic base and well being of the EC.
Promote the region as tourism destination
Promote region events and attractions
Promote a clean and beautiful region
Develop low-impact nature-based tourism and retain natural beauty and resources.

Quality of Community:

Provide active and visionary citizen-based leadership in the EC.
Revitalize a sense of community in the EC.
Foster healthy recreation programs that contribute to the physical and mental health of residents.
Support local 501(c)(3) organizations and community groups
Create a multi-county community fund to support future projects.
Support arts and cultural growth.
