Accomplishments: Projects and Studies

A number of projects have initiated by the Enterprise Community Board and Staff. Some of these projects are studies designed to help determine the best method to reach the benchmarks laid out in the strategic plan. Others directly address the needs of the community. Here are a list of projects that have been initiated.

School Library Challenge Grants

While EC grants are available to all non-profits and government agencies that serve the EC, we have taken a special interest in providing loans to school libraries to be used to purchase books. The School Library Challenge Grant program offered $5,000 to any school library that could raise $2,500 match (unlike the normal 50/50 match for EC grants.) Six schools representing all five counties applied for the grant before the deadline and received funding.

Utility District Feasibility Study

One of the benchmarks in the strategic plan is to increase availability of water and sewage service to EC residence. The Study has been funded to determine the state of the current water and utilities infrastructure is and how it can best be expanded to benefit EC residents.

Wood product and Farm Food Products Feasibility Studies

Value-added Wood product and Farm Food Products Feasibility Studies have been conducted to help determine direction in economic development of the region.

Loop Trail Feasibility Study

A study was conducted by a private tourism consultant firm to determine the feasibility of developing loop trails - routes laid out to provide tourists with the experience of all the history and crafts that the area has to offer. The study proved beneficial in pointing out varied local sites of interest in the region from natural/scenic wonders to historicaly significant points to heritage crafts and music. A long term toursim plan that relies on infrastructure and sustainable economic development is being addressed.

FEMA Volunteer Fire Department Grants

In the spring of 2000, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that it would be awarding $100 million in equipment and training to volunteer fire departments throughout the country. The EC board and staff helped many of the fire departments in the area to submit a proposal for funding. Only half the money has been awarded, and our community has received at least one grant.

Clinch-Powell Community Fund

The Clinch-Powell Community Fund is a multi-county community fund has been set up with the East Tennessee Foundation. This fund is a way to ensure that endowment and grantmaking capabilities for the region will exist after the EC designation ends.

Clinch-Powell - A Community of Opportunity Brochure

The Enterprise Community contracted a local graphic design firm to produce a economic recruitment brochure. The brochure highlights the many benefits of relocating a business to the Clinch-Powell area.

Industrial Recruitment

The Enterprise Community has utilized a local business developer to recruit new businesses to the area.
