Appalachia CARES attends AmeriCorps statewide retreat

Recently, Stephani McCarty, staff member with our Appalachia CARES AmeriCorps program, attended a statewide AmeriCorps program staff retreat, hosted by Volunteer Tennessee during the 34th Annual National Service-Learning Conference in Franklin, TN.

AmeriCorps CEO, Michael D. Smith, spent some time with the group to deliver national updates and address questions or concerns. Tamika Eatmon, AmeriCorps NCCC Assistant Program Director, spoke about recruitment challenges and opportunities to collaborate across AmeriCorps programs. Program directors and staff joined the entire conference for the lunch plenary, which focused on "Engaging ALL Young People".

Moderated by National Youth Leadership Council members, speakers included Smith, as well as Congressman Brian Baird, and a panel of young entrepreneurs supporting youth in their communities.

Special guest, Beth Nielsen Chapman, grammy-nominated singer and songwriter, performed a few songs to close the session, including "This Kiss" which she co-wrote for Faith Hill.

We are very proud of the work that Stephani does and the positive impact made by our AmeriCorps Members across the state of Tennessee!
